The Versatility and Benefits of Tallow

All About Tallow and Why It's Great

Hey there! We were blown away by how fast our goat tallow sold out. So, we decided to ask tallow users what they really want in a tallow product. We know our goat tallow is awesome, and we're working on getting more of it. But many folks love beef tallow for their skincare needs. It's affordable and easy to get. So, we chatted with local farmers to source top-notch grass-fed beef suet and got busy in the kitchen developing new products.

What Makes Tallow Special?

Alright, let's talk tallow! Tallow is made from suet, which is the fat found in the abdominal area, also known as leaf fat or kidney fat. This fat comes from ruminant animals like goats, sheep, cattle, and deer. Pig fat is called lard, and the fat around muscles is called trim fat. Some products labeled "tallow" might be a mix of different fats or from various animals, but ours isn't. We've sourced the best suet from farms that treat their animals kindly. After months of hard work, testing, and tweaking, we've perfected our tallow products.

The Rendering Process: Making Quality Tallow

Making great tallow is all about the rendering process. We slow render the suet for about 14-24 hours on low heat, which melts the fat and removes impurities. Then, we triple filter the liquid to get a beautiful white to creamy white hard ointment. This process is pretty intense, but it ensures our tallow is top quality and ready for all sorts of uses. If rendered improperly, the tallow can be grainy, greasy and smelly! Tallow will always have a slight hint of beef smell, but once on the body, it disappears quickly. Using fragrance oils or essential oils will leave your skin smelling beautiful.

How to Use Tallow

Tallow is super versatile and can be used in tons of skincare products. Depending on what you need, we mix in the highest quality ingredients to create amazing ointments, salves, balms, and whipped butters. A bit more science behind Tallow:

CLA - Conjugated Linoleic Acid

Tallow is an excellent source of CLA, a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. This makes tallow particularly valuable in skincare. Tallow from grass-fed cows contains even higher levels of CLA. For this reason, I always recommend checking your skincare labels to ensure you're getting high-quality ingredients.

Vitamins A, D, E, and K

Tallow contains these fat-soluble vitamins, which are crucial for good health. Together, they support hormonal balance, neurological health, cardiovascular function, and immune strength. These vitamins also promote bone growth and muscle development.

Omega 3 & Omega 6 Fatty Acids

Our bodies need both omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids, but they can't produce them on their own. Tallow provides these essential fats, making it a valuable addition to your diet and skincare.
